Behind many meaningful projects is a person who inspired them. We'd like to share the story of a family member whose journey inspired a project called Circulation Desk. Behind Circulation Desk is a young woman named Caity, whose love of books inspired what began as a father-daughter project and eventually grew into something that neither of them expected.
Meet Caity
At 25 years old, Caity was preparing for an exciting new chapter in life. She had recently been accepted into physical therapy school and was looking forward to pursuing a career helping others. Anyone who knows Caity knows how much she loves books. Organizing her collection, tracking what she’s reading, and dreaming about the perfect home library all bring her joy. Earning a library science degree is even on her bucket list.
In early 2026, however, life took an unexpected turn. After months of abdominal pain, doctor visits, and testing, Caity woke up one morning in severe pain and made a trip to the emergency room. Additional scans, appointments, and a biopsy ultimately led to a diagnosis of Low Grade Serous Carcinoma, a Stage 3C ovarian cancer.
Since then, she has faced chemotherapy treatments, hospital stays, specialist appointments, and the many challenges that come with navigating cancer at such a young age. Throughout it all, she has been surrounded by family, friends, and a growing community of people who continue to support and encourage her.
How Circulation Desk Got Its Start
When someone you love is going through something difficult, you look for ways to help. For Matt, that started with a conversation about books. Caity had always dreamed of having a better way to organize her growing collection. She loved the idea of scanning books like a librarian and keeping track of her personal library, so Matt decided to build something just for her.
What started as a father-daughter project was never intended to become a business. It was simply a way to create something meaningful together. As the project came to life, so did Caity’s excitement. In one social media post, she wrote:
My sweet daddy has spent so much time and energy building something that was even better than I could have imagined.”
What started as something built for Caity eventually became Circulation Desk, making the tool available to other book lovers who may find it useful for organizing their own collections. Circulation Desk is a desktop application that allows readers to scan, catalog, organize, and track their personal book collections.
